APC congress turns sour in Kebbi

The battle between the two camps of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State for the control of party structure, yesterday generated tension during its congress in Kebbi South senatorial zone of the state.

Representatives from the seven local government area were protesting the alleged hijack of election materials for the conduct of the exercise.
The protesters who were lodged in Birnin Kebbi demanded for explanation the refusal

to distribute electoral materials to Fakai, Sakaba, Danko/Wasagu, Ngaski, Shanga , Yauri and Zuru LGAs.
Daily Trust gathered that representatives of the two factional interim state chairmen of the party; Ali Bature and Atiku Bunu were also in disagreement on which faction would receive the election materials.
Ali Bature is said to be supported by Danmaliki camp while Bunu is said to be from the camp of the state former deputy governor, Alhaji Suleiman Mohammed Argungu.
Party chairmanship candidate for Shanga LGA, Alhaji Bala Shanga, insisted that they would not leave until the materials were handed to them to conduct elections for their members.
Kebbi South zonal chairman of the congress committee, Ahmadu Aliyu Tafoki, told Daily Trust that he received directives from the national headquarters of the party that no material should be given until the two factional representatives were around.
“The national headquarters had just directed that three representatives of each faction must be present before we can commence the exercise,” he said.
There was hot exchange of words between members of the two factions with each group accusing the other of plot to hijack materials.
