The All Progressives Congress (APC) has shifted local council congresses for the Abuja Municipal Area Council to Tuesday.
According to the Chairman of the Congress Supervisory Committee in
the Federal Capital Territory, Ambassador Abubakar Shehu Wurno, who
spoke with Thisday, the postponement was as a result of the inconclusive
congress in one of the 12 wards (Kabusa) in the AMAC. He said efforts
to agree on a consensus arrangement in the Kabusa ward failed, hence the
decision
to hold fresh congress to elect officials.
“The conduct of our congress in the FCT is going on very well and
there are no problems so far. We are having local council congress
simultaneously in Abaji, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali and Bwari area
councils. We had already carried out the congress in the 62 wards that
make up the FCT with leaders of party emerging at those levels,” he
said.
From the Sunday results of the congress, Alhaji Hussaini Deze and Isa
Musa Maimaggi emerged as the chairman and deputy chairman for
Gwagwalada while Muhammed Sani Zampara was elected Secretary.
In Kwali, Hon Aliyo Yahaya and Anze Barde won the chairman and
deputy chairman contests with Danlamika Ibrahim scaling through as
Secretary.
Mr Godwin Z. Payi and Isah Saliuw Garba got elected as chairman and
deputy chairman in Kuje respectively, Idris A. Bba joins them as
Secretary.
For Abaji, Abdulrahman Ajiya and Muhammad B. Haruna were elected
chairman and Deputy Chairman while Abubakar Y. Mairiga got picked as the
Secretary.
As for Bwari, Hon. Aliyo Tanko and Haruna Ismaila were elected as chairman and deputy with Shuaibu Musa emerging as Secretary.
According to Wurno, no petitions have been received by the election committee so far in the FCT – always a good sign.
