The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State has conducted its
ward congress to elect officials for the 361 wards across the state.
Chairman of the ward congress committee, Bello Dantata, who spoke
to
newsmen after the exercise, said the election went on smoothly, adding
that it was conducted in line with the party guidelines.
Dantata, who led a five-man congress committee, said 17 officers and three ad hoc delegates were elected in each ward.
“There was a level playing ground. It was an open ballot system and elected officials were announced there and then,” he added.
He commended participants for their orderliness and security personnel for ensuring the smooth conduct of the exercise.
Daily
Trust reports that virtually all former officials were returned to
their positions, while a few, who have spent several years in the same
position, were elected to new positions.
While the exercise was
concluded as early as 11:00 am in places like Batagarawa A, it took a
longer time to begin in places like Abukur ward.
