Gombe - Khamisu Mailantarki (APC), the member representing
Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State at the House of
Representatives, has protested against the conduct of APC’s ward
congress in the state.
Mailantarki said on Sunday that he and
some prominent stakeholders of the party in the state were sidelined in
the meeting with committee members who conducted the congresses.
He
said that he and other party stalwarts were surprised to hear that the
committee had met with some stakeholders before the conduct of the
congress without their knowledge.
According to him, he and some
members of the Gombe State House of Assembly and the deputy national
women leader of the party are not informed of any pre-congress meeting.
The
lawmaker noted that following the development, many
of the aspirants
who had paid fees for nomination forms in designated banks were denied
the forms, thereby excluding them from contesting for their chosen
positions.
According to him, the disenfranchised aspirants have their payment tellers.
He alleged that "a few groups of 10 to 20 people moved in cars from one ward to another, writing results.’’
Mailantarki said he had complained to the committee members whom he said were misled in meeting a section of the party members.
According to the legislator, the committee members promised to look into the matter.
He
urged the committee and National Headquarters of the party to consider
their complaints, with a view to addressing the anomaly.
When
contacted on telephone, the Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Mohammed
Ahmed, declined comments on the matter, saying he was attending a
meeting.
