Ekiti State chapter of the Conference of
Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), has called on President Goodluck
Jonathan to call to order the minister of state for defense, Mr. Musiliu
Obanikoro, for alleged abuse of the military aides attached to him.
The umbrella body of political parties
alleged that the minister abused his office by using military aides
attached to him to disrupt the recent bye-election in Ilaje-/Ese Odo in
Ondo state.
The conference, in a statement by its chairman, Prince Tunji Ogunlola in Ado Ekiti,
said Obanikoros’ action was a threat to a
free and fair election. The conference, in a statement by its chairman, Prince Tunji Ogunlola in Ado Ekiti,
The group said the earlier the minister is called to order the best for the nation.
Lamenting the security challenges facing the country, the CNPP regretted that the minister instead of seeking to surmount the challenges has rather been going about raising unnecessary controversies.
The CNPP said it aligns with the position of the Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Akin Orebiyi, that Obanikoro disrupted the Ilaje bye-election stressing that the minister had no business being at the election venue.
The CNPP statement further noted that Obanikoro has also been accused of using his military aides to stall projects in Lagos State saying his action does more harm to the image of the President than good and advised the minister not to venture into Ekiti during the June 21, 2014 governorship election as it says the people of the state will resist him.
