Why I Dumped PDP — Isah Dara

Isah-DaraRecently the immediate past chairman of Bwari area council of FCT and leader of PDP in Bwari, Isah Dara Bwari dumped the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressive Congress (APC) in this interview with DAVID AUGE-ANI he speaks won why he left the PDP.
What is actually happening in your former party, PDP?
As at now I dint have much to say about what is happening in the PDP. But today I have decided to change my position as a PDP strong member
in Bwari area council to APC also in Bwari area council. The change was done in the best interest of me and the entire family, as well as my supporters and good people of the federal capital territory. It is them that encouraged me to leave the PDP.
Honorable as a strong member of PDP over the years, one wonders what made you to dump the party and joining the APC.
Yes, this is because I want to be relevant in political activities. Over the years past, so many things have been happening in PDP Bwari area council. I have not been called upon for any meeting. Since after the last election, there have never been meeting involving the PDP in the area that I was invited. So I felt that it is enough for me and that I should go to where my experience will matter.
Some people in Bwari area council are of the opinion that the area has been marginalized when it comes to federal appointments. Is it one of your reasons for leaving the PDP?
We all know that Bwari area council has been marginalized in FCT in terms of appointment. But I believe it not the right to say that it is because of that I am leaving the PDP. It is not. What I am saying is that the authorities should be able to balance appointments in all the area councils of the FCT. This is because it is not good that politicians should forget certain sections of the area council any time it comes to the issue of appointments.
Do you think you can mix well with the characters in the APC, the party you are decamping to?
Let me tell you, as I move into the APC. Mind you I am not joining the APC alone. I am moving with my supporters and my people. You are going to see what is going to happen let me not to pre-empt anything.
To be precise, how many people are moving into the APC from the PDP?
Let me assure you that it is not only in Bwari that I have friends and supporters. And before I finally made my decision I have consulted them. I want to assure you too that following this decamping you will see what will happen. I am not boasting.
How would you assess the performance of PDP in Bwari area council in terms touching the lives of the ordinary Nigerians, especially since you left office as the chairman of the area council?
It is not for me judge anybody. If you want an assessment to can go in town and interview residents of the area to find out, you will get more details, but it is not for me to say that.
Honorable are sure you got the overwhelming supports of your supporters before decamping to the APC.
If you watch carefully you will notice that all these people surrounding were my supporter in my former party, the PDP. My decamping to the APC has been long awaited, because I was making consultations with my supporters. It is because we have finished with the consultations that we have decided to take this step today.
What are your plans in the APC?
Yes, we will immediately commence activities in the party to ensure that structures are put in place.  We are going to ensure that those people who have good command of their people are put in place. This will not be done through appointment or selection. I think that by so doing we will achieve our aim.
What actually attracted you to the APC when you decided to leave the PDP?
It is because today, we moving towards a two-party system in this country. So after I decided to leave the PDP my next was the APC.
Did you see any possibility of the APC winning in FCT in the forthcoming elections?
Well, I am not God, but I believe that if I work hard there is definitely going to be a change in 2015 in FCT.
