Cracks in PDM as Hanga group threatens ‘pull out’

Pioneer national chairman of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Senator Rufai Hanga has threatened to pull out of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) over alleged high handedness and marginalization.
Hanga’s spokesman Chief Dennis Aghanya, said yesterday in Abuja that when the CPC faction that did not merge with the APC joined the PDM in October 2013, it was done after consultations and extensive discussions with the leadership of the PDM.
“Our first shocker came during the courtesy visit by members of our party from the South East zone to the national secretariat. In course of discussions, leaders of the PDM
told us to our face that members were not comfortable to integrate us into main stream affairs of the party because of our former link with Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. Though we may have parted ways politically, Gen. Buhari has not committed any crime that should have warranted such comment from the likes of Mallam Bashir.
“We also discovered that every NEC member of the party has been made to sign his resignation letter leaving the column for date empty before their names were submitted to INEC during registration; an action that is ill intended. We were also informed that upon registration, the national chairman was meant to hand over the registration certificate of the party to those who sent him on that errand, an agreement he later reneged on. This is one of the reasons the continuous existence of the party has remained uncertain.
He said the national chairman of PDM also announced the suspension of Senator Hanga and nine other members from Kano for no stated reasons while Hanga was away to Saudi Arabia and that though the leadership has been unable to propagate the activities of the party properly in the media, the suspension of Hanga and others was repeatedly announced in more than four radio stations for over two weeks in Kano and environs.
He said efforts to discuss the matter for a better understanding have been bluffed by the national chairman who rather insisted that Hanga and co must face a disciplinary committee even when no reason was given for their suspension.
