The ruling Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) will today hold its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting which
sources within the party say will explore the fortunes and progress of
the party under the current leadership.
While a source hinted our correspondent
that the meeting might explore grounds for the declaration of President
Goodluck Jonathan ahead of 2015, other sources however said that an
appraisal of current moves to contain insurgency might be looked at
also.
It is gathered that the composition of membership and how to organise a successful National Convention for the election of its candidates for the 2015 general election would be top on the agenda.
The NEC meeting is also expected to ratify the date for mid-term convention, which is speculated to hold on June 14, this year.
This will be the first NEC meeting presided over by Dr. Adamu Mu’azu since he emerged chairman of the party January this year.
The NEC meeting is a fall out of the Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting, headed by Chief Tony Anenih which met yesterday as well as the party’s caucus meeting which held on Tuesday to streamline the agenda of the meeting.
Sources within the party said while the agenda of the meeting remains foggy, it will likely pass a vote of confidence on the leadership of the PDP.
It was further gathered that a former governor from the north would be nominated to head the National Convention Committee.
