Director of legal services at the
national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mr. Patrick
Udomfang has accused aides of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio
of scheming to set the governor against him.
Udomfang, a former commissioner for
local governments and chieftaincy affairs in the state, who spoke with
newsmen in Abuja, was reacting to a report in an online portal quoting
him to have endorsed Chief Umana Okon Umana for the 2015 governorship
election in the state.
The governor is in favour of the position being zoned to the Eket senatorial district while Umana hails from Uyo senatorial district.
The PDP chieftain said the report was a calculated attempt by an official of the state government to create divisions between him and Governor Akpabio.
“I will never commit political suicide by taking a position different from that of my governor and major stakeholders in Akwa Ibom State who have unanimously agreed that it is the turn of Eket district to produce the governor in 2015.
“The alleged appointment of Mr. Iniobong Okopido as my campaign manager, as stated in the offensive publication, is the height of falsehood, as everyone in Abak constituency knows that I have not constituted my campaign committee yet,” he said.
