Bauchi State Principal District Court
number one in Azare, Headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area, has
ordered the All Progressives Congress (APC) officials to stop the
ongoing plans to conduct local government and state congresses in the
state.
The Presiding Judge Isa Mohammed gave
the order yesterday after listening to the application filed by counsel
to the 10 Plaintiffs, Barrister Usman Baffa Darazo, asking the court to
stop the congresses
pending the determination of the motion on notice.The applicants counsel Barrister Usman Darazo filed the suit against the APC Bauchi State Congress Committee and chairman of the committee, Dr Almajiri Geidam, alleging that there were fraud and irregularities in the last ward congresses conducted by the congress committee in Bauchi praying the court to order all the parties to maintain status quo.
The Presiding Judge Isa Mohammed, restrained the defendants from proceeding with the local government and state congresses.
The judge ordered the respondents to maintain status quo and not to act on the ward congresses conducted in the state between 6th and 9th April 201s pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
He adjourned the matter to 28th April 2014 and ordered that service to be effected on the defendants within 48 hours.
When contacted the state acting publicity secretary of APC, Baba Abubakar Suleiman, said he was not aware of the court order saying they just finished a stakeholders meeting of the party and did not hear anything like that.
