MEMBER of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national executive
council committee and the chairman of the Jigawa State chapter of the
party, Alhaji Salisu Mamuda Ku’it said the party has insisted that it
will not give President Goodluck Jonathan an automatic ticket for the
2015 general election.
The chairman, who disclosed the party’s position while speaking
with newsmen, on Wednesday, in Dutse, the capital city of the state,
said any attempt to offer an automatic ticket to any person was illegal
and violated the party’s constitution.
Alhaji
Ku’it explained that “there is no portion in the party’s (PDP)
constitution
that allows an automatic ticket to any member into any
position.”
Ku’it stated further that PDP was a strong political party accepted
by all Nigerians because of good manifestos and performance by some
people elected under its platform, such as Governor Sule Lamido. He
noted that: “PDP is a party that has internal democracy, where any
member enjoys equal right, adding that “automatic ticket is violation of
PDP’s constitution and breach of internal democracy that can lead to
internal crises.”
He noted that: “Not only President Jonathan, any member should stop
thinking of automatic ticken into any elective position, as candidates
would be chosen by popularity after contest among others eyeing the
position.”
Jigawa PDP chairman maintained that: “It is an unpopular aspirant who
thinks and pursues automatic ticket, and “this time round, the party
leadership would also be strict with the party’s constitution and
electoral law in the nation for better and lasting democracy.”
Commenting on the crises within the party in the state, Ku’it
described Honourable Abba Anas as “betrayer and unpopular politician,
who operates from outside his constituency.”
He, therefore, warned Honourable Anas to desist from attacking the
governor and government of Lamido if he was a true indegene and
patriotic to the state, as Lamido had impacted positively on the
socio-economic status of the state and its people.
