Strong indications have emerged that the spirited move by the
leadership and Elders’ Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osun
State chapter, to reconcile aggrieved gubernatorial aspirants, who lost
out in its concluded primaries won by Senator Iyiola Omisore, may have
hit the rocks, the Nigerian Tribune gathered.
According
to a reliable source, the seeming success and mileage recorded by the
elders and leaders of the party to harmonise political camps ahead of
August 9 governorship election may have been stalled with Monday’s visit
of Governor Rauf Aregbesola to the country home of his predecessor,
Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who also played host to two governorship
aspirants, namely, Senator Isiaka Adeleke and Hon Oluwole Oke at Okuku,
in Odo Otin Local Government Area of the state.
Nigerian Tribune authoritatively gathered that before Aregbesola’s
visit to Oyinlola, elders of the party, led by Chief Shuaib Oyedokun and
Chief Abiola Ogundokun, had held a number of meetings with the
representatives of Senator Adeleke, Hon Oke and Senator Olasunkanmi
Akinlabi.
However, it was gathered that the aspirants, who initially pledged
their supports and cooperation for the victory of PDP’s candidate,
Senator Iyiola Omisore, may have reneged with Monday’s meeting at
Oyinlola’s residence at Okuku, which also had in attendance the
suspended secretary of the PDP in the state, Raphael Towobola and the
deputy chairman of the party in the state, Dr Bashiru Salami.
But, the Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Prince Bola
Ajao, denied that the reconciliatory moves had suffered a setback
against the backdrop of Aregbesola, Adeleke and Oke’s visit to Oyinlola
on Easter Monday.
According to him, “I can confirm to you that the reconciliatory
efforts of the party are very much on course. Not only that, we have
made tremendous progress in this regard. Meetings were held, options
tabled and consolidation will be ensured. What is utmost is that the
party (PDP) has got all it takes to assuage the feelings of any
aggrieved member.”
While contending that his party possess the resources to identify and
checkmate any aggrieved member who may like to play the spoilers game
or act the role of a fifth columnist, Ajao said “for Aregbesola, it
shows clearly that he cannot be trusted.”
“APC’s programmes are implemented half heartedly at costs inimical to
the survival, growth and development of Osun people. From his meeting
with Oyinlola on Monday, Aregbesola do not have absolute faith in his
APC platform and of course he is a bad influence in principles.”
Meanwhile, a source who pleaded anonymity told the Nigerian Tribune
that the hosting of the two governorship aspirants and late night
visitation of Aregbesola, were part of the plots to allegedly whittle
down electoral chance of Omisore at the poll.
