Benue: PDP unveils code of conduct to gubernatorial aspirants

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has unveiled a code of conduct for its governorship aspirants.
State chairman of the party, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, said at a meeting held with party executives and its 19 governorship aspirants in Makurdi on Tuesday, that it had become necessary to set up guidelines to checkmate activities of the aspirants as the election date draws closer.
“The main objective of this meeting is to roll out our party’s code of conduct
to all governorship aspirants in the state under the PDP,” he said.
Agbo maintained that the party would not condone any form of campaign that would result to violence, abuse of other candidates or defamation of character among others from the aspirants.
The party chairman insisted that the meeting was intended for aspirants who had formally announced their intention to contest the 2015 governorship position of the state under the PDP’s platform and warned that no member of the party’s executives would be allowed to take appointment of campaign organisation of any aspirants.
“Executive members of the party at the national, state, local government or council wards are not allowed to serve on any campaign organisation be it presidential, governorship, senatorial or state Assembly,” he said.
He also said that the guidelines do not permit any appointee of the president, governor, or local government to serve on the campaign train of intended aspirants.
