Mu’azu been called to intervene in Cross River PDP crisis

Friends and political associates of a governorship aspirant in Cross River State, Prince Goddy Jedy Agba, have sent a petition to the national chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its National Working Committee, saying their principal is being persecuted and denied freedom to aspire for state governorship by the state leadership of the party.
The statement was signed by six said members of the party including former commissioner for environment, Dr. Sandy Onor; former PDP national publicity secretary, Venatius Ikem; former special adviser and vice chairman of State Planning Commission, John Omori; former member of Cross River House of Assembly, Bassey Ibor; former member of House of Representatives, Ernest Irek; and former executive secretary in the state, Pius Achu, the elders insisted that Jedy- Agba is a member of the party.

They said Agba was registered as the number 79th member of PDP in Utugwang Central Ward of Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State in 2011.
In a swift reaction, state chairman of PDP, John Okon, said they do not know Agba as a registered member of the party, stressing that they would follow the constitution of the party to select those to contest the party primaries.
The petitioners further said there is no law in the country that can deny any citizen the constitutional right of freedom of association or becoming a member of any political party as suggested by the party leadership in the state due to Jedy-Agba’s status as a civil servant with the NNPC and referred to a Supreme Court judgement in 2002, where the dichotomy between civil and public servants was settled.
