Ondo Labour Party members defect to PDP

A total of 1005 members of the ruling Labour Party (LP) in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State yesterday officially announced their defection from the party to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The defectors, who were led by a former leader of LP in Akure Kunle Adeloye, told newsmen at the occasion that they have resolved to pull out of Labour Party following the failure of the state governor, Olusegun Mimiko, to fulfil the promises he made to them before he was voted into office in 2012.
They were received at a reception held at Oke Lisa Street, Akure by some leaders
of the PDP, including former gubernatoral candidate of PDP in the last election , Chief Olusola  Oke, a former ambassador, Professor Olu Agbi, and others.
Adeloye who also lamented that Akure people worked very hard to ensure that the mandate was returned to Mimiko even before the last gubernatorial election, said they have not really benefitted from the governor’s administration.
He said the biggest surprise was the recent Akure festival where the youth of the city had intended to hold the yearly festival but was aborted by the government at the dying minute.
He stressed that Mimiko specifically told them before his re-election that the number of votes from each local government would determine the level of benefit from his administration.
“The governor promised that those who worked will be rewarded by the party, yet three, four years on, nothing has been done. The governor after meeting with indigenes of Akure before he was re-elected promised that he would reward the community with the post of Secretary to the State Government (SSG), if he got maximum votes from Akure.
“I am only interested in what will benefit us , the Akures and Ondo State. You will discover that the people are angry with the government just because this present administration has failed the people. Only those who were not around when we were struggling to retain Mimiko are now benefiting from the government.
“They hijacked the party. We have invested in LP, Akure people have always been in support of Mimiko’s government but with his recent attitude toward us, this has forced  us to make a u- turn.”
