The All Progressives Congress (APC)
national convention earlier scheduled for Friday June 13 and Saturday
June 14, 2014, has now been re-scheduled for Thursday June 12 and Friday
June 13.
Chairman, national convention
sub-committee on media and publicity of the party, Rotimi Fashakin,
stated this while briefing newsmen, Wednesday night.
He made the disclosure after the meetings of the sub committees on finance and zoning in preparation for the party’s national convention to elect the party’s leaders.
Fashakin said the national convention which will take place at the Eagle square, had to be rescheduled due to unavoidable circumstances.
“Thursday the 12th of June and Friday the 13th are the days slated for the convention of the APC. We intend to have the accreditation of all the delegates, and then on Friday the 13th from 2:30 PM we will start the convention,” he said.
He added that the various sub-committees are working on various guidelines to streamline the activities of all the sub-committees.
“You know there are guidelines about those who are eligible to contest for which position and in which zone. We are still waiting for the party to come up with that. They have not given us the details. I hope by Friday, we will be able to get that,” he said.
The publicity sub-committee chairman added that the issue of zoning is crucial in the run up to the convention as it has been the main focus for the party for strategic reasons and it will lead guidelines.
“Basically, the issue of zoning is very central in the guidelines. I mean if one wants to contest for a post and the post is not zoned to his geo-political zone, he will be automatically disqualified ab initio from the outset,” he said.
Chairman of the National Convention committee, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, had earlier hinted the possibility of changing the date following information from the federal government informing the party that the Eagle Square would be used for another activity on the 14th.
