PDP NWC may discuss waiver for Ribadu, others today

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may discuss the applications for waiver for some Adamawa State governorship aspirants today, Daily Trust learnt yesterday.
The waiver is to allow the three aspirants to contest in the September 6 governorship primaries.

They are Malam Nuhu Ribadu, General Buba Marwa and Mr Marcus Gundiri, who defected to the PDP in recent months.
PDP rules require returnees or defectors into the party to obtain waivers before contesting in elections.
All the three politicians defected to the PDP at different times recently from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Section 8.9 of the PDP constitution states that: “Persons who desire to rejoin the party after leaving it shall, unless exempted by the NWC, be placed on probation for a period of time not less than a year.”
A source in the party told our correspondent yesterday that the NWC will meet today and is likely to iron out the issue of waiver, which is creating tension between aspirants who recently defected to the party and those who have been in the party for a long time.
The source said the meeting of the NWC is so that the issue of waiver would be resolved before the commencement of the screening of its aspirants scheduled for tomorrow.
Ribadu has said the issue of waiver is not a source of worry to him as he told newsmen that he has done his bit and left the rest for the party.
