DISQUIET IN SOKOTO APC OVER TAMBUWAL

There is growing disquiet in the Sokoto State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the alleged attempt by Governor Aliyu Wamakko to hand over the governorship ticket of the party to House of Representatives Speaker, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
Tambuwal had on Monday, attended an APC stakeholders meeting in Sokoto, indicating his reported interest to join the party.

Though Tambuwal has dismissed reports claiming  he left PDP, saying that he only attended the event on the invitation of the state governor, many believed that he would join the APC to fly its governorship flag.
Sources told Daily Trust that already, some of the aspirants became agitated, proposing that the party  conducts a primary election to pick its candidate, instead of a consensus arrangement where the governor could have his way and hand the ticket of the party to the speaker.
”It is better to hold free and fair primaries for all aspirants,” one of them stated.
APC stakeholders had at a recent meeting agreed to zone the party’s governorship ticket to the Southern senatorial zone of the state.
Tambuwal and most of the contestants come from the Southern senatorial zone.
The zoning issue which has been a topical one in the state, arose following the fact that incumbent governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko hails from Sokoto Central zone, while former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa was from the Sokoto East.
Those contending for APC ticket from the zone comprised Alhaji Ibrahim Danbaba, a former director in federal civil service, Faruk Malami Yabo, a former commissioner, Senator Umaru Dahiru Tambuwal, Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary and Alhaji Yusha’u Kebbe, a governorship candidate of defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP)
