‘I INTEND TO SAVE YOBE FROM BACKWARDNESS’

A retired permanent secretary with the Yobe State Government, Yahaya Mohammed, said  his decision to contest the state’s governorship position was borne out of his desire to save the state’s backward health and education sectors.
Mohammed, who declared his intention to challenge the incumbent governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, under APC platform, said there was an indication that APC would not support governor Gaidam’s ambition to remain in office.

He said: “The dismal state of our hospitals and schools is very alarming. Everywhere you go, Yobe is ranked lowest in these key sectors of life; health and education. It is my desire that when elected, I would bring the needed change to these key aspects of the lives of our people. I will transform these sectors in the state and reverse the negative indices as they affect us not just on paper but with a direct impact on the people.
“We are not sure but there are speculations that the APC will not support Gov. Gaidam’s ambition for for governorship, the same way they are against President Goodluck Jonathan. Therefore, we cannot afford to have a vacuum. But let me tell you, even if the APC allows Gaidam to contest, that would not kill my ambition because I will still challenge him at the primary election.”
He said that he will surprise his opponents in the forthcoming APC primary election in the state.
“Those who feel that I am joking over my ambition to be governor will be surprised by the time I pull a surprise string at the primary elections.”
The former permanent secretary added that this is the right time for zone C to produce a governor in Yobe State, which, according to him, has remained the only zone yet to lead the state.
Although Gaidam has not made any public declaration over his ambition, there were signs indicating he will run for the second term of office.
