Former Governor of Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki, yesterday disclosed that he would make his position known on whether to bid for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket next week.
Some groups and individuals have been calling on the former governor, who is the APC leader in Kwara State, to vie for the APC presidential ticket alongside other party bigwigs like General Muhammadu Buhari, former vice president Atiku Abubakar, Kano State Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso among others.
Speaking with newsmen in Ilorin, Saraki, who represents Kwara Central in the Senate, said the APC presidential primarys will not disintegrate the party ahead of the 2015 general elections, despite insinuations of possible disagreements from some ruling party members.
He said: “I appreciate the demands I have seen from different parts of the country. 2015 is not about us. It is about Nigeria and the sacrifice we have to make to ensure that we rescue Nigeria and lead it in the right direction. And nobody’s personal ambition is too large for that and over the next week or so I will make my intention known.”
He, however, assured that all the aspirants would queue behind anyone who emerged as the APC presidential candidate.
He added: “This is the propaganda from the opposition. When we wanted to merge, they said this party would disintegrate. When we wanted to elect our national chairman they said the same thing and I want to assure you that the fact that we are going to organise primaries should not in any way disintegrate the party.”
