Former chief of staff to ex-governor Jolly Nyame of Taraba State, Malam Aminu Jika, has been appointed as the director general of the Darius Ishaku campaign organisation.
Ishaku who resigned last week as minister of state for Niger Delta affairs is running for governor in Taraba State and has since obtained nomination form at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headquarters in Abuja.
A statement from Ishaku’s office said Jika, who served as commissioner of information under Governor Danbaba Suntai, is to lead a team of officials that would spearhead Ishaku’s campaign organisation as he battles for the PDP governorship ticket of the state.
In his acceptance speech, Jika who hails from Jalingo, said he believed that it was only fair and proper for power to shift to the southern part of the state in 2015.
He said: “I won’t be wrong if I say that power must shift from the other zones to the southern part. The north has held onto power for 10 years, the central part for a total of eight years by next year and the southern part for zero number of years.
“Our campaign shall be devoid of foul language and unnecessary aggression. No name calling, but we shall focus on the issues. Taraba needs immediate rescue. I believe the former minister is that rescuer that shall be used by God to pull out the state from the quagmire,” he said.
He noted that the state has continued to slide into irrelevance due to the lopsided policies of the current administration, adding that “I have gone round the state and apart from the war in southern Taraba, apart from the destitution and sadness, people are listless, confused and looking for succour.”
