Court restrains PDP from recognising Taraba ward congresses

A Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from recognising the ward congresses of the Taraba State chapter  of the party until the determination of the suit before it.
Justice Adeniyi Ademola yesterday also restrained the party from conducting any further congresses for the fielding of candidates for the 2015 general elections until the main suit before it is determined.
The orders followed an application by a member of the party, Senator Joel Ikenyi, who led five other aggrieved members of the party to file an ex parte application in the court challenging the outcome of the ward congresses conducted on November 1.
Ikenyi said his name was substituted as delegate of the party from Jibu ward of Wukari Local Government Area with the names of other persons.
According to the applicants who are Sale Habu, Ali Janye Samuel, Isaac Solomon, Julde Garba and Absalom Simon, the ground for the motion is because of the advanced preparations made by all the political parties and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the general election.
Kanu Agabi (SAN), who filed the application, told the court that their participation is dependent on the speedy hearing of the case.
The judge adjourned the case to November 24 for hearing of the substantive suit.
