Former chairman of the defunct Congress
for Progressives Change (CPC) and a member of the interim management
committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, Alhaji
Ahmadu Yaro Coca-Cola, yesterday, said he remains a contestant for the
position of state chairman.
Coca-Cola who spoke exclusively to Daily
Trust said the rumours making the rounds that he had dumped his
ambition to contest for state APC chairman in order to serve as campaign
director for Mallam Nasir el-Rufai’s 2015 guber campaign is
‘fictional.’
He added: “It is true that there was a move by party leaders in Abuja to persuade all the nine contestants for the position of party chairman to back down in return for other posts, but it is not true that I have accepted the post of el-Rufai’s campaign director.
“I am still running for the state APC chairman and the attempt to persuade other contestants to step down for a candidate from one region of the state isn’t democratic.”
Contestants for the APC chairmanship include, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, Umar Isa, Barnabas Bala, Aliyu M. Lawal, Mikah Adamu Sule, Abdullahi Garba Abbas, Sadiq Mamman Lagos and Abubakar Abdullahi.
He also said the delay in the release of results of ward congresses in the state could be attributed to the ineffectiveness of the state congress committee.
