Katsina APC: ‘Calls for cancellation of ward congress

The forum of elected ward executive council members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State has described the call for cancellation of the party’s recently conducted ward congresses as self serving and ill-intended.
Chairman of the forum, Sade Gambo, who spoke to newsmen yesterday in Katsina, urged the national leadership of the party to disregard such calls, insisting that the exercise was conducted in accordance with the party’s guidelines.
He lauded members of the congress committee and urged them to speed
up the process of conducting the local government and state congresses.
A similar call was made by an APC stalwart, Bala Abu Musawa, in a statement made available to newsmen. Musawa said calls made by the Katsina State APC stakeholders’ forum for the cancellation is aimed at causing setback for the party.
The forum had alleged that the exercise was marred by violence and irregularities and ought to be cancelled, but Musawa said their call is predicated upon the fact that they failed in their bid to see their anointed candidates elected.
He said:”To begin with, we don’t know who these so-called stakeholders are as the party is barely trying to take shape. Who appointed these people into the coveted position of the party’s stakeholders’ club is basically the question begging for answer.”
Musawa also debunked allegations that elections took place in only three out of 11 wards in Musawa Local Government Area.
“Records are available to show that the exercise did take place. It is unfortunate that this group is making this call at a time when we are determined to ensure completion of the state congress so as to further reposition the party ahead of the 2015 elections and even beyond,” he said.
