As a result of the anticipated review of the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) timetable and guidelines, the October 6 date slated for the purchase of nomination forms by candidates has been pushed forward to October 13, Daily Trust learnt yesterday.
A top source in the party told our reporter that the party decided to change the date after it was discovered that some activities like Sallah celebrations and the resultant public holidays by the federal government were not taken into consideration when fixing the date for the sale of nomination forms.
He added that other activities that made the adjustment necessary include the rally for the party’s Adamawa governorship flag-bearer and the state’s governorship bye-election on October 8 and 11 respectively.
The source also said that the new date will provide another opportunity for the various candidates to make more consultations with their supporters on many issues as they now have another week before the commencement of the sales.
There are negotiations and horse-trading presently going on between candidates and the party on some possible sacrifices, which some candidates may likely make for the interest of the party, the source explained.
Although the source did not disclose details of what is happening as regards the ongoing efforts on consensus, he however said some candidates might opt for other positions different from the ones they initially showed interest in.
It would be recalled that the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) had after its meeting about a fortnight ago, empowered the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to make adjustment where necessary in the timetable and the guidelines earlier released by the party to make it more convenient
